Court Priorities

 Court priorities

League matches and rearranged league matches always take priority. The highest team can decide which courts they want to play on, then the next highest selects their courts etc. Obviously adjacent courts need to be selected. Current team order priority: Men's A, mixed A, mixed B, Ladies, B.A. Mixed C, Men's B home matches take place on Sundays. Evening matches normally start at 6:30, but some league rules state that the courts must be available 15 minutes before the start time for knocking up. Matches early in the season sometimes start at 6 p.m.

If two blue courts are used for a league match then the third is not to be used for any other play as stray balls unconstrained by a fence can affect the outcome of a league match, mixing of balls may also be an issue. However, if there are no tarmac courts available and both "blue court" captains consent, then the third blue court may be used for non-league play.

Captains should not rearrange league matches that would interfere with socials or club tournaments unless absolutely necessary, and then only with the permission of the Chairman / Executive Committee.

Club open and handicapped tournaments have the next priority to use whatever courts are required as long as they are played on the allocated date. Tournament finals have priority over social tennis on the blue courts; if they are not played on the designated finals day then they may only take up one blue court during social tennis sessions.

Saturdays Match practice has priority on the blue courts from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and priority on the green courts until 2 p.m. Social tennis starts at 12:30 and continues until 4 p.m., players play one set, tie break at 5-5, then come off the court to allow any people waiting to use the court.

Mondays
Rearranged league matches have first priority, then match practice has priority on whatever courts are required. Any free courts (including a blue court if one is available and there is not a league match on the blue courts) may be used, on a first come first served basis, if match practice is not taking place on that court. League match and Monday match practice players retain use of their courts as long as is required.

Tuesdays Social tennis has priority. Players play one set, tie break at 5-5,  then come off the court to allow any people waiting to use the court.

Wednesdays Fixed fours have priorities on Wednesdays if no matches are being played. Unused courts may be used for singles play, but singles play must stop immediately if the court is required for doubles; this ensures that the highest number of people can use the best courts. Players play one set, tie break at 5-5,  then come off the court to allow any people waiting to use the court.

Thursdays From 2016 Barkston Ash matches require three blue courts for home matches.

Juniors always have priority on the two tarmac courts furthest away from the pavilion unless there are league matches taking place.

When the courts are not being used for league matches, match practice, social tennis or club tournaments, they are free to be used (during the times allowed) for other play e.g. fixed fours, singles, box league etc. This on a first come first served basis, and all players must be present in order to start using the court. Players play one set, tie break at 5-5,  then come off the court to allow any people waiting to use the court.

Don't forget that through the tennis season the astroturf courts are also available.
